Every skill on your resume needs a story
A resume skill is not just a keyword. It is a promise that you can explain with a real example if a recruiter or hiring manager asks.
Use skills you can prove
Before adding a skill, ask yourself: what is one specific moment where I used this? The story can come from a job, class, project, volunteer role, team, or personal responsibility.
Make the story concrete
A strong example usually includes the situation, what you personally did, and what changed because of it. For example, communication is stronger when you can describe who you communicated with, what was unclear, and how your explanation helped.
Keep the list honest
You do not need every possible skill. A shorter list of skills you can defend is better than a long list that falls apart in an interview.
